I intend to update this page with developments regarding the film project.
The C.R.O.S has been on the go now for a number of years, kind of fumbling around without aim, not in a bad way, but not with a solid point for existing... The time has come for the point to be realised, the time has come for solid action! In 2017 the C.R.O.S will make a film, part documentary, part visual feast, part psychogeographical ramble through London's Occult wonders.
I intend to launch a 'Kickstarter' page to minimally fund this project, I also intend to interview many people i've met over the last few years whilst moving in the living breathing modern occult social scene, is this you?
This is still embryonic in stage, still little more that a good thought, but I do believe with the power of the Will and the artistic vision I have for this project it can become a reality.
As an artist i've always had an interest in the 'Occult', the 'Other'...with this film I intend to try and figure out why this is, what is it about the Occult that draws me so intently as an artist? Indeed the Occult has always played a bigger roll in Western art (and probably all art) than is acknowledged, this is being rectified, gradually, the film I intend to make will attempt to further understand the connection. It will also be a personal journey to try and discover what draws me to it so much. Early days with this and my thoughts are still raw and unordered, but I hope this helps.
*Fulgur Press, in 2014 I made a short film for them, you can view this here. Getting involved with Fulgur Press though their I:mage project and others I've become increasingly aware of the living Occult scene. They opened my eyes to a whole world of ideas and ways of thinking and also gave me confidence in my film making abilities.
**Atlantis bookshop has always been a fascination to me. In my younger days (about 26 years ago!) whilst living 'up north' my father worked for British Rail, through his job I acquired a 'travel anywhere for free' travel card. At this point I was attending a boarding school and some of my class mates lived down in London, so, on the last day of term (type days), using the travel for free card i'd (secretly!) come down with them to London for the day. I t was on one of these trips that I first visited this bookshop. I don't recall why this happened, the reason why we convinced ourselves to visit, it could have been its proximity to the British Museum, it could have been totally unplanned. I do remember it well though and I do remember thinking back then how it seemed full to its roof top with pure magic. It still is, more so than ever. And of course they are THE ONLY occult bookshop in the world to stock 'Beyond the Marshes' and for this I am eternally grateful!
***Treadwells came onto my radar through I:Mage 2013 (an art show put on by Fulgur). I visited the show that was in the art Gallery next door and realised here was another occult bookshop! Since then i've attended a number of events there and even helped out sort some books delivered in big bags for them...great people and a thriving occult social scene. In summer of 2016 i filmed a talk given by them at LSE, another push towards the idea of this film.
